Dr. Ruane received his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Illinois in 1982. He received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Chicago Medical School (currently Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine) in 1982. After two years of General Surgery Internship and Residency at the University of Illinois affiliated hospitals (including Cook County and West Side VA Hospitals) he went on to his Urology Residency at these excellent teaching hospitals, with the addition of Michael Reese Hospital, completing his specialty studies in 1992. He was certified by the American Board of Urology and has maintained this certification ever since.
Dr. Ruane joined Dr. Robert Ross and Dr. Joseph Thro after completing his Urology Residency in July 1992. After the retirement of Dr. Thro he was joined by Dr. Lomas and after the semi-retirement of Dr. Ross he was joined by Dr. Ercolani.
Dr. Ruane and his wife, Michele, raised their four children in Venice. They have both been active in school and church projects. “I have been blessed with an amazing wife, incredible children and I am surrounded by warm and talented professionals in my Urology practice; every patient I see represents a new opportunity to gain the intrinsic reward of helping those in need. What more could I ask?” Outside of Urology Dr. Ruane likes cycling and kite surfing at the beach. Every July since 2002 he takes his kids to meet with his brothers and their kids at RAGBRAI which is a week long leisurely bike ride of about 500 miles crossing Iowa.
“My father influenced me to pursue a medical career and outstanding mentors instilled me with enthusiasm for Urology. I still love it. Each patient is different and presents unique issues. I really enjoy applying the latest information and technological advances for the benefit of my patients.” This includes use of the DaVinci surgical computer enhanced robot which mimics my hand and instrument motion and allows me to see a 3-dimensional view allowing me greater precision to be a better surgeon.
